That’s exactly why we created BooKaliber Book Review Service, powered by Scribe Digest, to help independent authors earn the credibility and attention their stories truly deserve.

When you submit your book to BooKaliber, you’ll receive an honest, editor-led evaluation that does two important things: it strengthens your craft and opens doors to greater visibility through Scribe Digest’s print magazine, website, and award platforms.

Our review team includes experienced editors, journalists, librarians, and literary professionals who are genuinely passionate about nurturing author voices across all genres. We want to be upfront with you: we never guarantee a positive review, but we do promise that every submission receives careful, unbiased attention. If you receive constructive feedback, you can choose to use it privately to improve your work, or you can opt to feature your review publicly on our platforms to build your author credibility.

This tier pairs a rigorous critical evaluation with a high-impact media feature, ensuring your work gains both professional insight and public visibility.

1. Submit Your Book

Click “Get Started” and choose between two review tiers: Caliber Test or Laureate Review. Fill out our short submission form, and you’ll receive a confirmation email from the BooKaliber Review Team letting you know we’ve received your request.

2. Editorial Review in Progress

Once your submission comes in, we carefully assign your book to one of our acquisition editors or qualified reviewers based on its category. Your reviewer will read the entire book from cover to cover and provide an honest literary evaluation that highlights your storytelling strengths and identifies areas where you might want to polish things up.

3. Receive Your Review

Within 2–3 weeks, we’ll email you with your completed review. If your book earns a 4 or 5-star rating, you’ll also receive an invitation to advance to Laureate Review, where you’ll gain access to guaranteed publication and award consideration.

4. Choose to Publish and Be Featured

You may keep your review private or showcase it publicly across Scribe Digest’s platforms. Books that advance to Laureate Review are automatically published in Scribe Digest magazine and featured on our website. We’ll also share your work across our social media channels and enter it into the Annual Scribe’s Laurel Awards shortlist for literary recognition.

BooKaliber is Scribe Digest’s book review program designed to help emerging and independent authors get professional recognition. We pair you with experienced literary editors who give honest, impartial reviews you can use to build your author profile or improve your writing.

Caliber Test is free and includes a professional star rating plus a short written review. If your book scores 4–5 stars, you’ll get an invitation to The Laureate Review.

Laureate Review costs $279 and goes much deeper. You’ll receive a detailed editorial critique, a full-page feature in our magazine, online publication, and automatic entry into the Annual Scribe’s Laurel Awards.

Right now, we review fiction and poetry in English: eBooks and PDFs only. We’re not accepting non-fiction, children’s books, or audiobooks yet.

Our reviewers are literary editors, published authors, and professionals who specialize in fiction and poetry. We’ve hand-picked each one based on their editorial background and track record with publication-quality work.

When you submit, we look at your book’s genre, tone, and target audience, then match you with someone who knows and loves that type of writing. This way, you get a fair evaluation from someone who actually gets what you’re going for.

Your Caliber Test needs to score 4–5 stars. We’re looking for books with strong literary quality, engaging readability, and clear connection with their target audience. Think of it as hitting the professional publication standard: well-crafted prose, compelling storytelling, and polished execution.

No guarantees. Every review is honest and unbiased. Our reviewers evaluate your work independently based on literary quality, readability, and how well it connects with its audience. You’ll always have the choice to keep it private or share it publicly on our platforms.

Yes, if you want. You decide whether to keep it confidential or publish it through Scribe Digest. Note: Laureate Reviews are automatically featured in our magazine, on our website, and social media, plus they’re entered into the Scribe’s Laurel Awards shortlist.

If your Caliber Test comes back under 4 stars, it just means you didn’t advance to the next level. You’ll still get your written feedback, which you can use however you like—for improvement, promotional materials, or just personal insight.

Your formatting won’t impact your review score, but here’s what makes things easier for everyone:

  • Font: 12-point Times New Roman
  • Spacing: 1.5 or double-spaced
  • Margins: 1 inch all around
  • Page numbers: Bottom center

Just make sure your book is fully edited before you send it. Reviewers will treat it as a finished work.

Please upload your final manuscript when you submit. Once we’ve assigned a reviewer (usually within 2–3 business days), we can’t swap files. If you make changes after submitting, you’re welcome to resubmit later for a new review.

Start with Book 1. Reviewers need that foundation to understand your world, characters, and story arc properly. Jumping into Book 3 wouldn’t give us the full picture.

Not at all. Our reviewers judge every book based on how well it works for its intended readers, whether that’s a tiny niche or a broad market. We’re looking at whether your book delivers for the people who’d naturally pick it up.

Most reviews are done in 7–9 weeks after we receive your manuscript. Laureate Reviews might take a bit longer because they’re more in-depth. We’ll email you when your review is ready.

You’ll get an email notification when your review is complete, with a link to view it. From there, you can download it as a PDF, and if you’ve opted for public publication, you’ll also get the direct link to your featured review on our website.

Reviews don’t directly move the sales needle, but they do build author credibility and reader trust. Laureate Review features especially help because they give you visibility across Scribe Digest’s platforms and our partner press network.

Only if your book hasn’t been assigned to a reviewer yet (typically within 2–3 business days of submission). Once someone’s actively working on your review, all fees are non-refundable—we’ve already invested professional time into your evaluation.
